Charlie's CH Kitties & the Wobbly Kitten Club
 Living with a CH (Cerebellar Hypoplasia) cat or dog (yes, dogs can suffer from it as well) can be challenging, rewarding, inspirational, frustrating and wonderful.....all at the same time.
Simply put, it's a condition where the the part of the brain that controls balance and movement (cerebellum) is not completely mature at birth.
CH causes jerky movements, tremors and often uncoordinated motion. That means alot of wobbling, stumbling, unplanned direction changes and falling down. Some CH'ers don't walk at all and instead slide themselves along on one side or the other. The more excited the animal gets, the more all this increases.
Usually the symptoms can be seen immediately at birth in cats,
but sometimes take two months or so to become apparent in dogs.
The GOOD NEWS is:
- CH doesn't get worse, in fact some animals improve with age and many others work out some ingenious ways of dealing with the challenge!
- CH animals live as long as non-CH'ers!
- CH animals have fewer pain receptors so they don't feel the bumps so much. (But it also means they can hurt themselves and not really know it, so you have to be especially watchful!)
- CH animals are normal in every other way!
- CH'ers don't think there is anything wrong with them, so why should we!
