How Many Litter Boxes are Enough?
The number of litter boxes you should have in your home depends on two things: First, the number of cats you have and second, the size of your home.
The rule of thumb is that you should have at least one litter box per cat plus one OR one per floor, whichever is more. So, if you live in a 2-story house with 3 cats - you should have 4 boxes. If you life in a 3-story home with 1 cat, you should have 3 boxes.
This may seem like a lot, but the idea is to give your cats the conditions they desire and minimize what you don't...behavior problems that often come with two few places 'to go'.
